Third orca dies in 18 months

On September 15, 2022, the orca lady Kohana died in Loro Parque on Tenerife. He lived only 20 years old – he died decades before orcas in the ocean. After Ula, who was only 2 years old, and Skyla, who was 17 years old, she is the third female orca to die in this park in the past 18 months.

Kohana was separated from her family as a child and taken to Loro Parque by SeaWorld Orlando. There he spent years in a concrete tank filled with chemically treated water, having to perform degrading tricks to entertain people in exchange for a small meal.

It is tragic that he could never experience the meaning of freedom and that his only peace was in death. He deserves so much more.

Marine parks are hell for animals

Orcas are intelligent, sensitive animals, but in marine parks they are used as money machines and confined for decades – isolated or in often incompatible groups – in tanks about 10,000 times smaller than their natural habitat.

How many orcas will die in Loro Parque before this sea prison closes?

Stay away from marine parks

When traveling, show compassion and avoid any facility where wild animals are caged for entertainment. When booking your holiday, please choose one of the many travel companies that have promised not to sell tickets to this hellhole such as British Airways Holidays and Club Med.

Ask the companies to stop supporting this animal suffering

  • It is a shame that TUI continues to profit from the plight of these highly intelligent and social animals. Send TUI a message now asking them to stop advertising and selling tickets for Loro Parque and other marine parks.
  • Help drive change across the travel industry by asking ABTA, the UK Travel Association, to add advertising for marine parks where whales and dolphins are exploited to its list of “unacceptable practices”:
